Han Solo is a smuggler, hot-shot pilot, and the captain of the Millennium Falcon, a ship he owns along with his Wookiee co-pilot Chewbacca. Although initially reluctant to join the Rebel Alliance, Han becomes a key player in the rebellion against the Empire. In The Empire Strikes Back, Han is on the run from the Empire along with Leia, Chewie, and droid C-3PO. Han and Leia's relationship deepens on this journey and is central to the climactic point of the story, where Han is frozen in carbonite by the Empire and turned over to Jabba the Hutt.
Han is one of my all-time favorite characters; when I decided to finally cosplay him, I knew immediately I wanted to do Han's jacket version of his costume from Empire Strikes Back. This came out pretty well the first time, but I've improved my techniques over time and completely remade it in 2018. For both versions of this costume I used a pre-made twill work jacket as a base, which I shortened and then used the excess fabric to make the pockets and flaps. The shirt I self-patterned out of cotton; the first version wasn't as well-fitted and was whiter in shade. For my remake I found a much nicer cream fabric and revisited my pattern, making alternations for a better fit. The pants were also store-bought, which I then tailored to fit more snugly. The first time I used bias tape to create the yellow stripe pattern down the sides, but when I remade this costume I used embroidered appliqués which were much more accurate in size and shape. The shoes are equestrian boots which I modified, and the belt and holster are an amalgamation of parts I have found online and put together; every time I wear this I end up swapping out or upgrading a part of the holster. The blaster is a fan made one I bought online and have added to and corrected parts of over time. Similar to the holster, I'm constantly tweaking it.
