Lucy van Pelt is one of Charlie Brown's classmates and the older sister of his best friend, Linus. Impatient, stubborn, and quick to anger, Lucy is the most antagonistic of the Peanuts characters, often mocking the others or bossing them around. Rather than a lemonade stand, Lucy runs a "Psychiatric Help" booth, where she dispenses pop psychology, insults that she likely sees as tough love, and occasionally meaningful advice to her peers in search of help. Self-confident and ambitious, Lucy often speaks out in defense of women’s rights and aspires to be President of the United States.

Construction Notes:
I loved Peanuts growing up and Lucy was always my absolute favorite character. Sure, she's a bitch, but she knows what she wants, tells it like it is, and she doesn't suffer any fools. When we decided to do a Peanuts group for Dragon*Con I decided to be Lucy, but only if I could have her "Psychiatric Help 5˘" booth! For Lucy's outfit I wanted to go realistic and make the 1950s/60s style kids dress Lucy's design is portraying rather than be literal and replicate the oddly proportioned dress drawn in the cartoon. I used three yards of blue cotton fabric for the dress, which was made using the Simplicity 4015 pattern. I lengthened the skirt and raised the collar to be more appropriate to Lucy, and patterned her scalloped collar by hand, which is backed with interfacing. The sash and bow I made using casa satin for contrast. The wig is a 1950s style Grease wig which works perfectly for Lucy. We had so much fun wearing these costumes, and the biggest surprise was how many random con-goers slammed loose change on my booth and asked for psychiatric advice! Most of the exchanges were really funny and I made enough $ to get myself a cocktail.
