Mirio Togata is a third-year student at U.A. High School, an academy which specializes in training students with manifested Quirks (superpowers) for future careers as professional crime-fighters. Mirio chose to be a Pro Hero at a young age, and his powers manifested as superhuman strength, heightened intellect, and the ability to become intangible at will. Optimistic, laid-back, and undeniably goofy, Mirio's personality belies his powers and his skillful control over them; along with his friends Nejire Hado and Tamaki Amajiki, Mirio is one of the top three students at U.A., known as The Big 3, and is arguably one of the most powerful fighters at the academy.
I originally choose to do this costume both because I enjoy the series but also because I needed more comfortable costume options in my collection; most of my stuff tends to be overly complicated and uncomfortable and not appealing to wear on days or evenings at cons when I'm just not feeling it. I bought the base uniform off of eBay, but then spent quite a bit of time tailoring it so it fit me properly. Majodere styled the wig for me, which was a lace-front blonde wig from Arda that we'd used part of to make the blonde portion of my Vash wig. The spikes of Mirio's hairstyle covered up the part of the wig that was missing, so this was the perfect way to recycle what otherwise might have been a useless wig. I painted Mirio's scars on with acrylic paint. Despite the costume's simplicity, this was a cosplay first for me: it was the first time I used colored contact lenses. I previously hadn't bothered because of the extra expense of getting a lens which was adjusted for my astigmatism, but Mirio's eyes are so iconically blue that when I found a good deal I couldn't pass up grabbing a pair. I really enjoyed wearing this costume, especially with Majodere and Ellystar as the other members of the Big 3; I can definitely see packing this costume for more conventions in the future.
